The X-Spot, Year 1

I began this blog one year ago today. Actually, I did it by accident. I meant to log into a team blog (23rd Mandalation) started by my friend Suki Hoshi, and accidentally created a new blog by mistake. I didn’t post much early on because I figured that no one would read it. I was wrong.

The year has had some big ups and some tremendous downs. The best thing, however, is that I met all of you—online, at least. I had the sublime pleasure of meeting Cora (Mayden’s Voyage) and Enemy of the Republic (Cruel Virgin) in the flesh.

Several times, the X-Spot enjoyed a bit of notoriety, with a hundred or more hits coming in per day. The first time occurred last spring, when reading Libby’s page I stumbled across HNT. I met a lot of friends after posting on the phenomenon, some of whom (Bellarosa, Felicity, Spencer, Sunny Delight, Jeanniegrrl—I can’t remember if I met Kate through HNT or through Lux--and especially Boo) you can see in the sidebar. The other three times occurred late in the summer when other websites and blogs linked to the series on alien abduction, the deaths of Jimi Hendrix and Marilyn Monroe, and a single post on (ahem!) penis size.

Other posts seem to have gotten me into a little intrigue, most notably the series on the Symbionese Liberation Army. I won’t blog about that now, but it looked like, for a while, my life would get weird again.

Reflextion advised me to string articles together. But until the tagging feature in Beta Blogger, I didn’t know how to do that. Since I plan, in year two, to continue some of the same subject areas (although in a bit more depth) as last year, perhaps these tags will prove useful.

On a sad note, the year also brought with it some tragedy as the deaths of Castor—an early commenter on the X-Spot—and Betcha Can’t Guess Who really brought home the realization that the cybercommunity is a very real community, with very real emotions attached to it.

We will start our second season by continuing a series I interrupted last fall in order to do more research on the topic. This one is kinda special to me personally, for I have been assisted in it by a number of people whom I had only known through their work. For me, it has been a real kick to connect with others doing conspiracy research, especially those whom (unbeknownst to them) I’ve held in high regard for years.

It’s a story about a guy named Howard, a guy named Bruce, another guy named Ari, with other guys named Jack Ted, Ralph and Robert. It’s also a story about Jack's wife, a woman named Mae, a woman named Stephanie, and another woman named Mary Jo.

I hope you stay tuned.

Happy blogiversary darling! I'd crack a Bud for you but I'm fresh out :) you don't strike me as a beer man anyhow...perhaps anisette in strong coffee? I like Amaretto and Tia Maria myself but for some reason I can see you with anisette. An interesting concept - perhaps even post worthy for me... What little "things" do I see about certain bloggers just from their writing styles...I bet I'd be way off on most but even in "meatland" don't we usually see others how we wish to? Now I'm on a thinking rant..LOL.. I'll shut up.. Keep typing luv - an old blog friend from a few years back told me once when I was stumped for what to write or even whether to bother to keep blogging:

"If you type it - they will come"

    She was right.

Stout maybe. I bet you like stout.

A whole year already...very cool. Here's to many more to come and best of luck on what remains on your thesis.

Rinda, so am I. I'm also glad we teamed up on 23M. Perhaps I should post more there, huh?

Believe it or not, Jeanniegrrl, but if offered a Bud, I wouldn't turn my nose up at it. I've drunk plenty of 'em. My favorite beer is one they don't make anymore, Christian Moerlein. But truth be told, I'd prefer a good scotch.

I guess that's one of the reasons why memes and tags are so popular in cyberspace. They help fill in the missing gaps.

And I'll keep writng for as long as I have something to say.

Thanks John. I'm hoping year two will be interesting enough to write about.

    ...le mee' see...hmmm..thinking back..thinking back....

I saw you through someone's blog ( obviously..)...um' what I mean is...you would always leave a comment on this person's blog and I liked the way you placed your words together...so eloquent and logical and just cool...

I think I read you even before you gave a comment on me' bloggy...I didn't dare leave comments...felt like I'd sound silly...not smart...and I might say the wrong thing...I do that ( say the wrong thing..like this morning said someone here..arg!)

I remember distinctly well getting all excited when I read your comment...in my blog...like "gooosh...this cool X Dell guy read my rant...!!...woow!...I wonder why?..lol!"

Well..that other blog where I came across you has pfft out...but you're stil around...I have no idea how you look like or who you are...but wouldn't it be something if I'd still be reading up here...10...15...20..30...40... years from now....

It's me' bloggy month as well...but have been blogging for 3 years now...

    Happy Anniversary X-Dell :)
I'm caught up on all your posts~ I wonder how I missed the CIA ads growing up?
I was very interested in the FBI when I was in high school- but no one encouraged me to follow up that lead- and it kind of fizzled-
if I had seen the CIA ad- I think I would have given them a call.

It is a great pleasure reading you- and even sweeter to meet in person :) You were definitely one of the highlights of my year~
Thank you for being my friend :)

Be looking in your mailbox ;)
    Hugs :)

Angie, it's been my pleasure to have encountered you. I have to say that you have contributed substantially to the posts here, so I thank you.

Lux, I don't know how long I'll be blogging. But if I'm here (or on some other platform) for forty years, that would amaze me.

BTW, I'm pretty sure I read one of your comments on that same blog, and I checked out your page for the same reason.

C-Dell, congratulations. It would seem that you, Fatty and I all started blogging about the same time.

Boo, you have been one of the most delightful presences here from HNT. I didn't forget you. I just forgot that that was how we met. I've been forever grateful to Obosso for bringing a lot of HNT'ers here through his links. Especially you. The post will now reflect that (check the edit).

Mayden, what can I say? I was so happy to meet you, and hope to see you and your family again in the not-too-distant future. I'm also hoping that 2007 turns out to be a better year for all of us.

As for the CIA ads, they're a fairly recent thing. You wouldn't have seen them growning up, but rather only as an adult.

Sridharan, I would have guessed that you had been longer than any of us. One of these days, I plan to comb through everyone's archives. I guess yours I'll have to spend some extra time with. It's been my good fortune to have come across you.

hmm, i reckon you found me through a link on somebody's blog. i do recall being surprised that you would even take the time..but i'm glad you did.

Schaumi, the pleasure has been mine, obviously. You'll continue to see me on The Foaming Moan too.

Libby, I'm afraid that if you ever encountered me on the streets of Columbus, you'd reach for your little can of pepper spray:-)

But it has been good to have you here in cyberspace with us. Someone else has to understand the craziness of Ohio.

Congratulations on your anniversary. As you know I don't get here as often as I would like, but each visit I am enthralled.....even if rarely comment. A cyber anniversary kiss.

Um, Thanks, Dale. When you put it that way, I could stand to be a moron more often. I've gotten a lot out of this, including your acquaintance.

Betty, thanks. You're always welcome here.

Sunny, I like it when you drop by, nonetheless. Onward and upward.

Hey... off topic, but do you know any good contractors in your area of NJ? I need to begin getting estimates to renovate bits of my Moms house and thought I would ask. If you dont mind could you email me. I think you may have the email address if not perhaps you can give it to me in a comment and I wont post it... or get it from Cora... thanks!!

Kate, if there's any assistance I can give you, you're more than welcome to it. Unfortunately, I could not contact the only contractor around here that I know. I'll keep my ear to the ground, though.

Sapna, welcome to the X-Spot. Do I know you? Have you been here before? If so, welcome back.

And thank you for the kudos.
