I Gotta Barn: A Proposal
From the moment I first heard Middle Ditch, I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could, as a cybercommunity, get together to put on our own radio drama, and then post it?”
After thinking about it, I realized that it would be physically possible for each of us to act scenes, and edit them together with sound effects and music. But in this instance, can a cybercommunity do what a meatspace community can?
I’d like to test this hypothesis. It will involve all of you.
What I am proposing is that we create a radio drama. I don’t have a barn, but I do have Audacity and a script. If you can stick a microphone into the back of your computer, speak lines, and e-mail the mp3 recordings, then I can edit them here.
I know this is something we can, theoretically, do. But can we actually do it? Before I propose anything further, is it something that you would like to participate in?

That sounds like a really interesting idea, and I think I can borrow a microphone from my brother. Since I notice you didn't say anything about it being quality work, I would feel comfortable participating. :)

Hey, Yinyang. Cool. I'll list the parts in the following post, if there's enough interest. That way, you can involve yourself at any level of participation. And, as an I-gotta-barn production, the quality will be what it will be.
SJ, there are no super-duper men in this script. But if you see a part you like, it's yours.
Foam, I'd love to have you on board.

Wow. This is something I have absolutely no experience with. I think you'd have to count me out, though I'd be happy to listen and comment on the finished product. I've definitely got zero talent in that direction.

Oh, what will you let me do? You want me to play the nutbag on the subway who suddenly stands up and yells: "Satan! I await you! What is thy bidding, my Master?"
(My husband saw this in Chicago.)
OH. Pick me, pick me!!!

It sounds very cool. Unfortunatley, I don't know how to do any of the technical stuff. Maybe sometime when my son is over, I'll talk to him about it.

Charles, I'm cool with that. Of course, there are quite a few minor parts. Perhaps if you want to dictate something into a tape recorder, and mail it to me, that will work too. I won't push. But you're welcome.
Enemy, I was kinda hoping you'd be the villain. She's knida nutty too.
Behind Blue Eyes, I plan to actually do a step-by-step tutorial on how to do this. It's actually pretty easy, and you might actually have the equipment on hand. If you don't, it's inexpensive. Still, if you want to record something into an old-fashioned tape recorder, we can work that out too.

Cool, Enigma, I'd welcome your participation. I'll post instructions on how to do this, but there are ways to accomplish this, even if one is technologically impaired.
You wouldn't have a tape of your performance, would you? As I said earlier, I love radio dramas.
