Getting Close to Posting Again

The good news: with one exception, I have received every recording that I need to complete The Golden Ganesh. Moreover, I have made rough cuts for eleven of the sixteen episodes. The only ones missing are those featuring Dee. I have received a test recording from he actress playing her, though, and she will be sending me two real episodes when she returns from Asia.

Meanwhile, I’ve taken a little trip to Cincinnati. Curious thing. Cincy’s the hub of the airline I took, so all flights go through there to points in the Midwest. So, you’d reckon that a fare between Washington and Cincinnati would be cheaper than one going from Washington to Columbus, OH--especially since you have to stop in Cincinnati to change planes for the Columbus flight.

Here’s the rub: the flight to Columbus is three hundred dollars cheaper. So, to get to Cincinnati, this time, I first had to fly to Cincy, so that I could fly to Columbus, so that I could drive back to Cincinnati. If I missed the flight from Cincy to Columbus, the airline would simply take the three hundred dollars out of my credit card.

If anyone reading this has ever worked with an airline, I would appreciate an explanation as to why such an agreement would make sense to the bean counters who set forth such policies.

For my next trip from Cincy to Washington, I’m seriously considering walking.

But if any of you are still around, I figure we’ll find something to amuse ourselves for the next few weeks.

I have come to learn that the the most convoluted and inefficient way of doing things is the way the airlines will choose to do it. They like this. Why? We will never know. It's not for us mortals to understand.

I am happy to hear that Ganesh may be finally completed. Wonderful news.

grrr about airports and airlines. they are designed for maximum piss-off, i think. in january i returned home to vancouver for the 4th time in a year. and that particular airport trip was my 11th in that same time frame.

i wish you safe travel. i have missed you. in case you don't know, its roxanne.

    Happy spring!

I wish the "beam me up Scotty" apparatus was up and working already. What would crazy airline flight plans do then?

... and the airlines cry about fickle customers and ask for subsidies... waste of resources it seems is not related to revenue.

I seriously think you should send your experience to Consumerist -- they're always looking for nits like this and they post them and usually get real answers from the airlines -- here: [link]

Ricardo, we're working on the Ganesh. As far as the airlines doing things the convoluted and inneficient way, it seems that the methodology is catching on with other businesses.

Crushed, I'll be paying you a visit soon. I'm sorry to see that Blogger still hasn't gotten back to you.

Tinkerbell, old friend, glad to see you. I'm kinda thinking that they must revel in the "maximum piss-off" because they're particularly good at it. Seems like everything is turning into Greyhound.

Helene, I hope you haven't jinxed yourself. I have plenty of airplane horror stories, but I'm gad to hear that it works for someone, especially someone I like.

Aggie, I think airlines would do booming business when teleportation becomes the norms. They'll be cheaper, and people will perceive them as the safe option, just as people who are afraid of flying currently regard trains as safer.

SJ, I hear you loud and clear. Still, I have to think something else is going on.

Foam, you have no better half, but you do have a great husband.

Sam, thanks for the link. I'll definitely look it up. BTW, I think "nits" is kind of a good word for that.

We go by boat! Much nicer and much more relaxed. The few times we do fly it's always stress, a rush and arguments.

Mind you the first time we flew back to visit my home country I was really apprehensive, having never flown before. David, my husband, was, of course, full of optimism. "Nothing to it" he kept saying "you are making a fuss for nothing". So, okay, we arrive, book in, enter passport, wait and board, me with heart in mouth, David with a spring in his step.

Plane takes off, up we go, I LOVE it. I see the beautiful clouds beneath me that look like cotton wool and would be such a soft landing. I can't stop looking out of the little window. Then I turn to David to show him the wonderful sights. "Leave me alone" he mumbles, white as a sheet, "Don't talk, go away". "But" I say, "It's beautiful". A little later he threw up.

    LOL

Try finding a reasonable flight from Philly to Minniapolis.

When I lived in Chicago, everything that flew direct domestically was cheaper because Chicago is a hub.

As for blogging, not ready yet, but I am trying to come by and make an appearance at the blogs of my buds.

Libby, I'm convinced that airlines are fast becoming like Greyhounds in the sky. I can't really complain of the same kind of ill treatment I suffered with bus travel, but this makes absolutly no sense to me whatsoever.

Devin, glad you stoped by. I'll be stopping by MFM later today when I get a chance (on my way out the door right now).

Monique, that seems to be the archetypical story of married life. Doesn't surprise me at all that David would be the white knuckler, not you. I think he was just trying to psyche himself up.

I've flown from London to Amsterdam, myself. But I much prefer the bus and the hovercraft.

I understand, Enemy. Minneapolis hubs only Northwest, if memory serves, and it's one of those airlines that really serve a select clientelle with very iffy service. No wonder they just got bought out by Delta.

Glad to see you always. I'll look forward to your next post, whenever that might be.
