I absolutely promise to, one day, sit down and listen to all the episodes from the beginning. So far, each time I found time, something happened that disturbed me. Either the phone (in laws, very important :-D) visitors, or days away.
Am on holiday for another six weeks but with hubby at home too I have to wait until I have some hours all to myself, phone off the hook, curtains closed (pretending I'm not at home) etc. But I will come back and listen. LOL
(actually, just disturbed again and have to go NOW PRONTO) XX

Wow! Lauren sounds sublime as Dee. Perfect.
I enjoyed this dialog for the smartness, and thought to myself, "that's all?"

Well, John, I thought it best to make this episode short. I figured that would give people a chance to catch up.
And I was quite pleased with the job Lauren did.

Wow that was great and so refreshing to hear Lauren's accent as Dee the Australian art shop owner.
I dont know if Lauren is American or Australian but she did a great job, none of this stereotypical nasally, twangy, ugly 'Aussie' accent which is usually portrayed by Americans or the english when trying to speak like us...I thought I heard a little bit of a New Zealand inflection there as well but thats OK.
Thanks Lauren, most of us speak with a lovely accent, we are not all colonials who come from the 'bush'. :-)
Another misconception...the words 'reckon', 'mate','cobber','sheila' and 'beaut'to name just a few are not in my vocabulary...we speak very much like you. ♥

Devin, I was hoping someone would get that gag. I only set it up three episodes ago:-)
Cannoli, it's funny you should say that, although it's true. In the novel, her last name's mentioned quite frequently before this scene. I forgot that I had obliterated all earlier references to it before then.
Dianne, I'm sure Lauren will be pleased to hear that. She's American, all right. Like you, I detect a bit of Kiwi in her voice, but I let it be because I tought it was a strong performance.
It's funny, but when I wrote this, I had a lot of Australian friends in NY. In fact one of my friends (the prototype for Dee von Zelle) was an early reader of the Ganesh. She's from Victoria, and she actually says "reckon" quite a bit, something our friends used to tease her about quite a bit (and me, I'm afraid).
Otherwise, you're quite correct. No one I ever met from there said anything close to "shrimp on the barbie," or anything close to that.

Thank you Dianne! I'm afraid I have some very questionable accent moments throughout this series, but I am glad you at least liked the accent in this episode. I don't think I've ever met anyone from Australia, so I tried to study the accents of a couple of Australian vloggers on YouTube. I know there's a bit of UK and New Zealand in there too; I worked with a New Zealander for a while in Korea, and his voice kept getting in my head. I wish I'd had someone with a real Australian accent demonstrate how they would pronounce the lines. Things would have been much easier! I never quite got it down, although I'm a little more comfortable with the accent now. Oh well, next time.

This was from a novel? Somehow I must have missed or forgot that somehow. Say X, do you really have a sequel to this? I would love to go around with another, but now I'll just bask in the rest of the series

Ok this was my favorite so far... I loved Laurens character (and her acting was wonderful. I never guessed she is an American!!) AND it made me totally think of our walk through NYC! lol
I am with JohnB... I would love to hear a sequel!

Lauren, that's utterly amazing. I have had so many close friends from Oz that the sound of that accent is indelibly etched onto my ear. In fact, one of the reasons why I write a lot of Australian characters is because I use my friends as prototypes.
the real Dee von Zelle thinks I do a pretty good impersonation of her, but for obvious reasons, I didn't want to take on this part. For you to have done this without meeting anyone from Oz is just remarkable--although, I should know never to underestimate you.
Helene, that's funny, because cults are such a part of life in Manhattan and Brooklyn, that they're kinda hard to avoid. And since you know my feelings about the subject....
When we had our walk, though, we were on the other side of the Village from where this scene is set:-)
Yeah, John, it was from a 30,000 word novel(la) that I wrote in the aftermath of 9/11. Because of it's awkward length, I didn't find any markets for it. So, I wrote another story using many of the same characters (In the second story, the plot centers around 'her,' and involves Project MONARCH programming). It's about four times as long as the Ganesh (120,000 words), so I'd have to spend some grey matter paring it down.
Bob's role is somewhat expanded, in the second story. Dee only appears in two scenes. Smythe becomes a much more central character (as does 'her'). Jenny Tyco remains a voice in the telephone, but we meet her cousin, Seamus. Diane and the Futon Cop don't appear. MacBrian makes a cameo. Just as "she/her" was an invisible character in the Ganesh, so too are Lynn and Felicity.
New characters include Fiona (a woman who looks almost exactly like Princess Diana), Tris (a hip Ivy-League professor), Janet (a heady rival PI), Victoria (an old friend of the Detective's), Victoria's wife Mary-Megan, the Detective's Aunt Pauline, and an iconic rock star of the 1960s.

Devin, I have recently re-listened to all of the middle ditch episodes in several sittings. It definitely helps with the continuity when it's all threre. Were I to listen to this, I think I'd do it like NYD.

Ah, your own novel. I was thinking how you got the rights to do this. Now I know.
No real comment here apart that it was a treat. Onwards to the next episode.

Monique, I'm hip. Anytime you do something like an internet radio drama you're always thinking "rights." But in this instance, I ripped off myself, and decided not to take me to court.
