When Ray first suggested I do a series on frauds and fakes, I thought it a good idea, because I had already thought about doing it earlier. I was planning to get to an example of The Big Lie (specifically, McCarthyism) before election time. But meatspace issues took center stage.
So I’m putting this series on the shelf, for a moment. We will get back to it at a later date.
Meanwhile, I've spent considerable time trying to develp a new feature for the blog itself, so stay tuned for it.
I hope you’re all well and doing fine.
meatspace issues have been taking up time here too.
ReplyDeleteyou do what you need to do and we will see you when you are ready to come back. it will be interesting to see what the new feature is about.
When I suggested the frauds and fakes angle I thought you were going to do the classic stuff like the Cardiff Giant (Cooperstown, NY), The Great Moon Hoax (1835, New York Sun newspaper), or The Great Balloon Hoax by Edgar Allan Poe (who had his own moon hoax, to boot). But this series turned out different and better.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that you want to set aside this series and try something else. I've also been distracted by meatspace issues (part of the problem is that I'm made of meat, not tireless synthetic flesh).
The average reader might not realize that for every minute they read of someone's writing, maybe an hour or more of research and writing went into it. A five minute read could be the result of five hours of work minimum. Sometimes you have to quit for a while, relax, and recharge the batteries.
I appreciate your comments and those of others who stop by my blog. I regret that I've been slack in replying but I do read all of them.
A blog shouldn't be a chore, something you have to do. It should be done out of inspiration. When a blog becomes another obligation or task, time for a break.
Looking forward to the new feature.
Foam, I guess we all go through it.
ReplyDeleteRay, I think the Museum of Hoaxes does an adequate job on the biggies. Thanks for the kind words, though. And I agree with you that when getting information out, the real work is compiling the sources and evrything else. The actual wrting takes a fraction of the time.
You exist in meatspace???
ReplyDeletebelieve it or not, sj, he does ..
ReplyDeleteI do, but not by choice.
ReplyDeleteMeatspace is kicking my ass. I thought I saw something about Oliver Stone here. Did I miss something?
ReplyDeleteSusan, what you saw was my upcoming post for the anniversary of the JFK assassination, which, for some reason, decided to post itself for all of three minutes. But because of the sidebar widget many of my blog friends have, it posted there. It'll be up a few hours from the time of this response.
